(PRE-REQUISITE - COURSE A & B)

DESCRIPTION: Ongoing exploration of topics from Courses A & B. Literacy Coordinators develop skills to become the staff developer in their elementary school.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Participants will:

A. Become effective presenters for the purpose of staff development.

B. They will plan, organize and deliver numerous staff development sessions dealing with a variety of topics.

C. Reflect on, adjust course of study in response to needs of participants and effectiveness of delivery.

TOPICS:

A. Assessment and Documentation of student progress.

B. Reading Aloud to Children using quality literature from a wide range of genre.

C. Shared, Guide and Independent Reading in primary grades.

D. Interactive and Independent Writing.

E. Oral Language, Phonics and Spelling Instruction.

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:

A. Lecture

B. Group Discussion

C. Professional reading discussion group

D. Video tape and discussion of tapes

E. Observations in designated classrooms

REQUIREMENTS AND EVALUATION:

A. Participation in class

B. Attendance

C. Administering Assessment instruction

D. Final Exam

E. Written Case Study

F. Written reflection of classroom observation

G. Present staff development session
